Welcome to the Scott page!
A short note from the Scott family written December 2008.
Late last year were preparing for a wedding on Derek’s side of the family, his brother got married on the 9th December to Emma. Derek was best man, Alec an usher and Hannah was a bridesmaid. It was a lovely wedding. Alec and Hannah, along with their cousins Ryan and Daniel, thoroughly enjoyed being centre stage (as well as the bride of course!). The boys looked so grown up and Hannah looked just beautiful!
Derek turned 40 last year and celebrated with a party. Of course, I didn’t mention too often that I was still in my thirties, but the inevitable happened and I turned 40 in April this year. However, this was made a lot easier by the fact that actually on my birthday I was sat drinking cocktails and watching the sunset in Barbados. Derek, the children and I had the most fantastic time. The highlight for me was actually ‘mastering’ water skiing for the first time after trying on two previous holidays, one being our honeymoon 17 years ago! So I felt quite pleased with myself that at the ripe old age of 40 I managed it!
As well as water skiing, we swam with the turtles, the most amazing experience, went kayaking, sailing, on a jet ski, banana boat and snorkeling. It really was the most amazing holiday.
Alec left primary school in July. He was very reluctant to leave and was not looking forward to secondary school at all. Main worries being getting on the wrong bus and getting lost. This was all forgotten when he came home after his first day. Honywood Community Science School is apparently the best ever and guess what, he didn’t get lost and so far has not got on the wrong bus! However, 3 months in and the homework timetable is taking its toll and the initial novelty of secondary school has worn off. Alec, over the past year, has taken up playing the guitar. He is thoroughly enjoying it and even managed to save enough money himself to buy an electric guitar. I am no expert, but when he plays it sounds very professional! He continues to enjoy his sport, football, tennis, golf and has now taken up rugby and basketball at the new school.
Hannah is now in year 4 at primary school and doing very well. She has a new teacher this year having had the same teacher for 2 years in a row. Hannah has also been getting in touch with her musical side and is learning to play the piano as well as the recorder. She is also an enthusiastic member of the school choir!

I really don’t know where all this musical talent comes from because neither Derek nor I have a musical bone in our bodies. Out of school she attends a very active Brownie pack, which she loves, she has recently passed her Grade One ballet and Primary Tap exams. As if I didn’t have enough to take her to she also attends disco dancing classes, tennis lessons and swimming lessons.
Well, despite the children taking up the majority of our time, Derek and I have managed a few achievements of our own. Just before last Christmas we had a weekend away in Amsterdam, where I completed a marathon and Derek a half marathon. We were joined by some other running friends and my cousin Jeff from America. This year we both completed the Great North Run in Newcastle and were in agreement that this was one of the hardest runs we have ever entered as it was all up hill! Boy did we ache the following day!
Believe it or not this is a very compacted version of our family’s events of the past year.
