We treasure the
fact that we are able to sail in several boats. Those of friends and two that
we are fortunate enough to be able to call our own whose details are revealed

We sail in a very beautiful estuary on the Essex coast called The Blackwater.
Apart from being an oustanding and popular area to sail in it is the largest
estuary in Essex and is one of the largest estuarine complexes in East Anglia.
Its mud-flats are fringed by saltmarsh on the upper shores, with shingle,
shell banks and offshore islands. The surrounding terrestrial habitats,; the
sea wall, ancient grazing marsh and its associated fleet and ditch systems,
plus grassland, are of high conservation interest. The diversity of habitats
in the estuary results in the area being of importance for a wide range of
overwintering waterbirds, including raptors, geese, ducks and waders. The
area is also important in summer for breeding terns.
